Abstract
This study is devoted to the investigation of the compositional interrelationship between the ornamental system of Armenian architectural heritage and contemporary haute couture fashion design. Within the framework of the research, the decorative and plastic language of medieval Armenian architecture has been reinterpreted in the composition of contemporary haute couture bridal wear. The study examines the principles of architectural composition, including symmetry, rhythm, volumetric-spatial relationships, vertical dynamism, proportional harmony, and ornamental integration, which are subsequently reimagined within the structural system of costume design.
As a case study, the research presents a model of luxurious Armenian bridal attire whose embroidered decoration synthesizes concepts derived from Armenian ecclesiastical architecture and the art of khachkars (cross-stones). The proposed design serves as a means of reinterpreting and expressing cultural heritage through contemporary artistic representation.
Novelty
The study integrates the floral and geometric ornamental motifs of Armenian churches, monastic complexes, domes, arches, and khachkars into the structural and decorative solutions of contemporary bridal attire. This integration is achieved through the coordination and reconstruction of key compositional elements. Such an approach contributes to the preservation, reinterpretation, and transformation of cultural heritage while facilitating the transmission of national culture to future generations.
Conclusion
The integration of national culture into contemporary fashion serves as an important means of cultural resilience and the preservation of identity. The application of the compositional principles of Armenian architecture to haute couture bridal fashion creates opportunities for the development of a distinctive national haute couture tradition with significant international representational potential.
The bridal image presented in this study may be regarded as a “museum model of future Armenian fashion,” in which national heritage is transformed into a contemporary artistic language.
In this context, the following conclusions may be drawn:
